I'm a little bit homesick lately. Not for the humidity of DC - perish the thought! But I miss having my folks and brothers so close. On a long weekend I'd invite myself over to their house, make Bubba marinate some flank steak and open the good wine, and curl up in a giant chair and bask in their A/C. Lady and I might venture out on a shopping excursion or disgust Bubba with some sort of glutinous t.v. marathon. It was pretty wonderful.
With my friends out of town for the weekend, I find myself facing a three-day weekend on my lonesome. And lonesome is an apt description. I'm going through a little lonely spell, anyway, without friends who are free to join me for blues night, or grab a spontaneous drink. So I've delved back into knitting, which I'd gotten back into last winter, but now I think I qualify as somewhat obsessed. (Fortunate in timing, since the world is currently breeding.) I haven't been to blues night lately, but I'm requiring my own attendance this week.
And this weekend? The prescription is projects. This morning I made a trip for outdoor furniture, and I'm about to pull the boxes in from the car for construction. I'm creating a space that I'll actually use on the balcony, and since it stays light here past 8pm, odds are good that it will get used often. Especially, since I intend to buy a neon orange grill. Additionally, I'm teaching myself to knit socks from the toe up. Two at a time.
If these two activities don't keep me content, I don't know what will.
Who am I? My name is astrowahoo, and in the past 5 years I've lived in Boston, DC, and now the San Francisco bay area. I love to turn stories into adventures, or adventures into stories, and tell them all here.

how do they do it?
How do people who routinely work 12 hour days manage it? I've put in quite a few of those lately, but I was thinking about time allocation the other night, and I realized that a 10 hour day, when added to commuting time, time to get ready in the morning and wind down at night, and I've not got 8 hours for sleep during the night - goodness help me if I want to accomplish any chores around the house. As a result, my sink is full of unwashed dishes and I have one hamper filled with clean laundry, one with dirty. Shoes are scattered everywhere - that cat has taken to curling up with them:

My fridge is stocked with snacks and frozen dinners rather than food to be cooked - when it's not empty, and that's if I don't either order in or go out.
So that's the answer to where I've been - working. Unfortunately, work doesn't make for interesting blog posts, And my wallet doesn't like all the eating out, especially since I've decided that with all this working I've earned a vacation that I can't really afford. I don't think I care, though. I deserve a break, of the sloth-like variety. I tend to be a go-getter, or at least a go-see-er on vacation, but I intend to go somewhere pretty and not see, instead I will just sit. Sit until I don't know what to do with all the time I've got between 8 hour sleeps, or more, and thoughts of getting up before the sun to watch the clock while I cuddle that cat, thinking about whether or not I'll catch the fast bus, or even the one bus, not the one ten minutes later... well, all those thoughts will be forgotten. It's going to be amazing. And maybe all that sitting will give me more interesting things to say.

not my best day...
I've had a busy couple of weeks, which precluded me from updating regularly - there were baseball and soccer games, dinners with aunts, parents, friends, and co-workers, family bbqs, work-related bbqs, an 80s concert that left me with stories to tell, and a day off from work spent wandering the zoo and city with a friend from Boston. It's been tiring, but oh so much fun!
Today, however, I'm just tired. I can't find my Metro pass, despite my new jacket I didn't feel cute today, work wasn't especially productive, a headache caught up with me as I got on the Metro, and by the time I got off the Metro it was raining and I had no umbrella. So rather than sit down and blog about all the fun I've had lately, I got into comfy pants, shed a few tears, and lost myself in a book for the evening. You'll have to wait for all the stories. In the meantime, however, I finally got a digital camera, and so I took the following picture of my comfort tonight:

not ignoring the blog.
Just wanted to let you know that I actually have a post in progress, but it's a crazy week at work, and a busy week after work, so I'm working on it in small bursts. I also have to admit that I spent a large chunk of time this weekend on my computer working on something that's not related to either the blog or baby pages. It will be it's own post, but Emily told me that it was an allowed project. Now, speaking of work, I gots to get there!
